Poland 2011

Map of the 2011 Polish legislative elections by powiat, constituency (for the Sejm, lower house) and by single-member electoral district (for the Senate, upper house).

Note the stark east-west dichotomy which is common to all Polish elections. A stark dichotomy with historical roots, as the east was ruled by Russia or Austria until 1918 and the west was ruled by Germany until 1918 or 1945. Beyond this marked division, the other main fault-line is the urban-rural divide, which breaks the east-west lines.

The map above shows the results of the Palikot Movement (social liberal/libertarian) by Sejm constituency. Surprisingly for such a socially liberal and anti-clerical party, the conservative east/liberal west divide is not so easily discernible anymore...

American gay marriage referendums

This map is an overall map of the most recent referendums and state votes on gay marriage or propositions related to gay marriage (civil unions/'gay marriage in all but name' affairs). Red indicates a vote against gay marriage, green indicates a vote in favour. States in gray have not held referendums or initiatives on the issue.

Denmark 2011

Map by municipality or alternative electoral division of the 2011 Danish elections.

The first map shows the % majority (margin, difference from 1st to 2nd place party) of each party winning a plurality in the district.
The second map shows the % plurality range for each party which won the district. For example, if a party won a district with 24%, the district is coloured with the 20-30% colour.
The third map shows the combined strength of the left block (ABFØ) and the right bloc (VOCIK) by district. It is a good guide to the overall distribution of left-wing and right-wing votes in Denmark.

Notice the huge wins by the left parties in Copenhagen and its suburbs, and the dominance of the right in most of southern Jutland.
